GAME RECAP

Breezy Point blows out Minnesota, 6-0

Breezy Point Ice Arena    Wed, Jan 28, 2015

The Breezy Point North Stars had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-0 win over the Minnesota Flying Aces.

Breezy Point got the win thanks to a great game by Jordan Carey, who had two goals and one assist. Carey scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Breezy Point. A tripping penalty on Lucas Mutschelknaus had put the North Stars on the power play. Linder Kenyon picked up the assist. Carey's next tally on the power play made the score 3-0 Breezy Point with 9:06 left in the second period. Jack Anderholm provided the assist.

Breezy Point's penalty kill excelled, as the North Stars gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:26 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Breezy Point was often in penalty trouble, totaling four minors and three majors for 43 minutes in penalty time. The North Stars surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. Breezy Point forced Minnesota's goalies to work without much rest, getting 38 shots and forcing 32 saves. Dakota McDonald made 22 stops and Spencer Mannes made 10. The North Stars stifled the Flying Aces' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Breezy Point found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The North Stars average 2.8 goals per game.

Breezy Point also had goals scored by Crosby Steen, who had two and Benny Smieja and Ryan Mezera, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Breezy Point were Ryan Herbert, who had one and Seyia Hayata, who had two.

Minnesota forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 29.0 minutes per game the Flying Aces had been spending in the box. Minnesota did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Flying Aces average 2.1 goals per game.

Jaxson Gosnell made 19 saves for Breezy Point on 19 shots. The North Stars registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Team's Coleton Anderson and Kole Kobel were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. For Minnesota, Bradee Thompson was ejected from the game.
