Plaszcz's big game bests Minnesota in 8-3 Twin City win

Jon Plaszcz had two goals and one assist to lead the Twin City Steel to an 8-3 victory over the Minnesota Flying Aces.

Plaszcz's tallies came on the power play at 6:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Twin City and on the power play 17:54 into the first to make the score 4-2 Twin City.

Minnesota's 17 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Flying Aces let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Twin City was often in penalty trouble, totaling 12 minors and one major for 59 minutes in penalty time. The Steel had been averaging 28.0 minutes in penalties per game. Twin City's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Minnesota power plays. The Steel's offense rang up 50 shots on Minnesota's net. Twin City surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Steel have scored at the pace of 3.5 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of Twin City were also effective in the Flying Aces' zone, and came away with three goals.

Twin City also got points from Cameron Tobey, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jake McAfee, who also registered one goal and one assist. Twin City also had goals scored by Jay Paul, who had two and Chris Skordilis and Russel Barone, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Twin City were Kyle Wagner, who had four, Paul Stehr, Tom Reilly, David Becker, Adam Bedford, and Darien Jones, who contributed one each, and Alex Egle and Mikko Aho, who each chipped in two.

Minnesota forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 16 minors and one major for 97 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 29.0 minutes per game the Flying Aces had been spending in the box.

Minnesota was helped by Ty Ennis, who racked up one goal. Ennis scored 12:17 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Lucas Dickison picked up the assist. Minnesota additionally got points from Matt Heim, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Zachary Johnston also scored for Minnesota. In addition, Minnesota received assists from Blake Neumann and Ryan Conybear, who contributed one each.

Darien Jones made 26 saves for the Steel on 29 shots. Dakota McDonald rejected 42 shots on goal for the Flying Aces.
