West Michigan downs La Crosse in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The West Michigan Wolves pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the La Crosse Freeze on a clutch goal by Mike Difranco.

West Michigan came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Wolves fell behind 4-2 after a goal by La Crosse's Brit Brothen at 18:07 in the second period. West Michigan knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Brandon Mezuk at 19:36 in the third period.

The Wolves were led by Dakota Ulmer, who registered two goals. Ulmer scored the first of his two goals short handed at 3:03 into the second period to make the score 2-2. A slashing call on Brandon Benaglio put West Michigan on the penalty kill. Michael Tratar assisted on the tally. Ulmer's next tally short handed made the score 4-3 La Crosse with 11:31 left in the third period. Steven Rhodes picked up the assist. West Michigan also got points from Mezuk, who also finished with one goal and one assist. West Michigan also got a goal from Josh Somers as well. In addition, West Michigan received assists from Sean Smalley and Devin Farkas, who contributed one each.

The Wolves were unable to stop the Freeze from sending pucks towards the net, and La Crosse eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

The Freeze were helped by Chong Hyun Lee, who had two goals. Lee scored the first of his two goals at 18:36 into the first period to make the score 2-1 La Crosse. Jack Sterne provided the assist. Lee's next tally made the score 3-2 La Crosse with 15:36 left in the second period. La Crosse earned a power play opportunity when Shawn Adam was put in the box for hooking. Brothen assisted on the tally. La Crosse additionally got points from Daniel Toycen, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Brothen, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for La Crosse came via Ben Henderson, who had two and Hunter Dragosh and Jake Lipski, who each chipped in one.

Hunter Vorva recorded 38 saves for West Michigan. The Wolves incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Cameron Scheuren made 18 saves for the Freeze on 23 shots. La Crosse incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
