Granite City holds on for 3-2 win against Wisconsin

The Granite City Lumberjacks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Wisconsin Whalers on the way to a 3-2 win.

Granite City made the score 3-1 on a goal by Mitchell Huffman at 4:37 in the third period, and Wisconsin got as close as 3-2 when Peter Henderson scored 19:04 into the third period.

The Lumberjacks were led by goalie Kendall Meyer, who finished with 36 saves while allowing one goal. Meyer certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.57 entering the contest.

Granite City's offense rang up 54 shots on the Whalers' net.

Others who scored for Granite City included Luke Richardson and Travis Kothenbeutel, who scored one goal each. In addition, Granite City received assists from Tanner Skaja, Adam Marty, Alex Carson, Jared Sprink, David Kenney, and Dallas Marvin, who contributed one each.

Wisconsin's offense rang up 38 shots on the Lumberjacks' net.

Connor Morgan also scored for Wisconsin. More assists for Wisconsin came via Will Holtan, Ryan Martin, Kaleb Morley, and Isaac Hale, who each chipped in one.

Granite City incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Evan Moyse made 51 saves for the Whalers on 54 shots. Wisconsin incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
