Sugar Land falls apart in second, loses to Point Mallard, 5-1

The Point Mallard Ducks scored three goals in the second period to pull away from the Sugar Land Imperials and clinch a 5-1 win.

Point Mallard got the win with help from a great game by Josh Hamilton, who had one goal and two assists. Hamilton scored short handed 6:19 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Point Mallard. The Ducks were on a disadvantage when Justin Clark went off the ice for tripping. Brad Reitter picked up the assist.

Point Mallard's Aaron Brickman was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 27 saves and let only one puck past him. Brickman certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.48 entering the contest.

The Ducks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with four minors and three majors for 63 minutes in penalty time. Point Mallard had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Ducks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Point Mallard kept Sugar Land's goalie busy throughout the game, and Colton Anderson made 27 saves on 32 shots.

Point Mallard additionally got points from Jake Cox, who also registered one goal and one assist and Reitter, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Point Mallard also had goals scored by Chandler Brown and Jake Champaign, who each put in one. In addition, Point Mallard received assists from Jakob Hornsby, Noah Gilreath, Stephen Coulter, Justin Delisle, Chris Corgan, and Davis Hudson, who each chipped in one.

The Imperials stifled the Ducks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Point Mallard registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Team's Grant Dukus, Justin Provencher, and Clark were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Sugar Land incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
