Topeka rolls over Dallas, 10-0

The Topeka Capitals had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 10-0 win over the Dallas Jr. Stars.

Alex Sauer had two goals and one assist to lead Topeka. Sauer scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Topeka. The Capitals had gained a power play chance when Josig Rochon was whistled for interference. Tre Kautzman provided the assist. Sauer's next tally on the power play made the score 7-0 Topeka with 17:06 left in the third period. Trey Opack picked up the assist.

Topeka put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Dallas to score on any of its five power plays. The Capitals was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Topeka allows 2.8 goals per game. The Capitals forced the Jr. Stars goalie Chris Mallon to work between the pipes, taking 54 shots. Topeka outdid its season average for goals scored. The Capitals average 4.1 goals per game. Topeka got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Topeka additionally got points from Andrew Cooley, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Kautzman, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Hank Roers, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Alex Johanson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Topeka included Joe Stoneburner, Sawyer Lockleis, Dylan Wattles, and Colin OConnor, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were James Bohan, Jack Cleaver, Benton Deanovich, and Steve MacIver, who each chipped in one and Mike Pedersen and Richard Yusa, who contributed two each.

Dallas' offense operated below its season average. The Jr. Stars average 2.6 goals per game.

Jacob Pelton made 21 saves for the Capitals on 21 shots. Topeka incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Mallon recorded 44 saves for Dallas. The Jr. Stars incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
