Panvica nets hat trick, leads North Iowa to 9-0 win over Minnesota

Johnny Panvica netted a hat trick to lead the North Iowa Bulls over the Minnesota Flying Aces, 9-0.

Panvica got on the scoresheet 2:27 into the first period. He then added goals at 10:36 into the first and at 16:07 into the first.

North Iowa led 4-0 after the opening frame the first period and maintained a healthy margin after.

The Bulls were boosted by David Johnson, who turned in a shutout with 28 saves. The solid play of Johnson will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.67.

North Iowa forced Minnesota's netminders to work in net, launching 73 shots and forcing 64 saves. Spencer Mannes made nine stops and Dakota McDonald made 55. The Bulls excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. North Iowa outdid its season average for goals scored. The Bulls have scored at the pace of 5.2 goals per game during the current campaign. North Iowa got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

North Iowa also got points from Tommy Heinzman, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Joe Kleven, who also registered one goal and two assists, Tyler Johnson, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Joe Burgmeier, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for North Iowa included Kurt Halbach and Sam Naegele, who each put in one. More assists for North Iowa came via Carmen Dalesandro, who had three, Adam Orn, Kohei Sato, Dylan Zins, and Trey Gardner, who each chipped in one, and Ryan Durant and Jake Johnson, who contributed two each.

The Flying Aces' offense operated below their season average. Minnesota puts an average of 2.1 pucks into the net per game. The Flying Aces' penalty kill unit could not stop the Bulls' power play, which converted on four of seven opportunities. Minnesota could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 48 minutes in penalties during the game.

North Iowa incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. The Bulls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Connor Bump was ejected from the game.
