West Michigan beats Wisconsin 4-0 as Vorva gains shutout

The West Michigan Wolves used a sparkling performance by Hunter Vorva to take down the Wisconsin Whalers, as the netminder did not allow a goal in West Michigan's 4-0 shutout victory.

The Wolves were led by Shawn Adam, who finished with one goal. Adam scored 9:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 West Michigan. Brandon Mezuk picked up the assist.

West Michigan forced Wisconsin's goaltenders to work in net, getting 40 shots and forcing 36 saves. Kevin OShea made 19 stops and Evan Moyse made 17. The Wolves managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. West Michigan finished below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Wolves' defense was surprisingly good. West Michigan gives up 2.9 goals on average per game.

West Michigan also had goals scored by Dakota Ulmer, Mike Difranco, and Sean Smalley, who scored one goal each. In addition, West Michigan received assists from Michael Tratar, Ian Rolfsen, Devin Farkas, and Brandon Benaglio, who each chipped in one.

The Whalers could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Wisconsin puts an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game. The Whalers' offense rang up 38 shots on the Wolves' net.

West Michigan's Vorva stopped 38 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Wolves registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Wisconsin incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
