Topeka pulls away in second, rolls over Dallas, 6-1Kansas ExpoCentre Sat, Jan 17, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Dallas Jr. Stars was within striking distance after one period, but the Topeka Capitals put the pedal down in the second en route to a 6-1 victory. Kyle Rimbach was all over the ice for Topeka, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Rimbach's tallies came short handed at 7:38 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Topeka and 5:35 into the third to make the score 6-1 Topeka. Dallas' power play was ineffective against the Capitals' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Topeka racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and two majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the Capitals had been spending in the box. Topeka excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. The Jr. Stars were unable to stop the Capitals from sending pucks towards the net, and Topeka eventually piled up 46 shots on goal. Topeka also had goals scored by Joe Stoneburner, who had two and James Bohan and Tre Kautzman, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were John Crusinberry, Drew Kelly, Jack Cleaver, Mike Pedersen, Steve MacIver, and Alex Johanson, who each chipped in one and Benton Deanovich and Richard Yusa, who contributed two each. Dallas forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Stars had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. Dallas' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Topeka power plays. The Jr. Stars were led by Brooks Blackburn, who scored the team's only goal. Blackburn scored 14:27 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Topeka. Josig Rochon picked up the assist. Bailey Aust recorded 20 saves for the Capitals. For Topeka, Crusinberry was ejected from the game. Anthony Galliart made 40 saves for Dallas on 46 shots.
