Toledo erases deficit to stun Pittsburgh, 4-3

The Toledo Cherokee rallied from two goals down to secure a 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Vengeance.

Toledo let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Cherokee took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Cody Estrel at 8:37 in the first period. Toledo found itself down 3-1 after Pittsburgh's Michael Straub put the puck home on the power play at 11:16 in the second period. After knotting things up at 3-3 on a goal by Zach Swanson at 11:16 in the third, the Cherokee got the game-winner from Mark McGee at 12:53 in the third period.

Toledo was sparked by McGee, who racked up one goal and one assist.

Toledo additionally got points from Dominic Pisanti, who also had one goal and one assist and Swanson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Toledo received assists from Tyler Zalecki, who had two and Aaron Roschinsky and Brody Duncan, who each chipped in one.

The Vengeance were led by Nils Markgren, who registered two goals and one assist. Markgren scored the first of his two goals at 6:43 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Dominick Glavach picked up the assist. Markgren's next tally made the score 2-1 Pittsburgh with 10:56 left in the second period. Bryan Hovanec assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Pittsburgh were Gavin Cummings, who had two.

Glen Bates rejected 20 shots on goal for the Cherokee. Toledo incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Jacob Stack recorded 15 saves for Pittsburgh. The Vengeance incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
