Pittsburgh blows out Toledo, 6-2Alpha Ice Complex Sat, Jan 03, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Toledo Cherokee had trouble finding ways to stop the Pittsburgh Vengeance, which beat Cherokee, 6-2. Nils Markgren had two goals to lead Pittsburgh to victory. Markgren found the back of the net on the power play 16:12 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Pittsburgh and again while 17:48 into the second to make the score 4-2 Pittsburgh. The Vengeance forced Toledo's goaltenders to work all game long, taking 39 shots and forcing 33 saves. Aaron Callan made 20 stops and Glen Bates made 13. Pittsburgh's goal total was higher than its season average. The Vengeance have scored at the pace of 3.6 goals per game during the current campaign. Pittsburgh also got points from Cody Black, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Eli Lynn, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Yevgeniy Gladkiy, who also registered one goal and one assist. Pittsburgh also got a goal from Bryan Hovanec as well. In addition, Pittsburgh received assists from Gavin Cummings, who had two and Leo Blore, Michael Straub, Tyler Speis, and Jake Parry, who each chipped in one. The Cherokee were helped by Cody Estrel, who had one goal. Estrel scored on the power play 9:06 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Toledo had gotten the advantage when Pittsburgh's Cummings was sent off for high sticking. Tyler Zalecki provided the assist. Evan Heldt also scored for Toledo. Other players who recorded assists for Toledo were Cam Schwartz, Austin Turner, and Mark McGee, who contributed one each. Brian Baker rejected 21 shots on goal for the Vengeance. Pittsburgh incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Cherokee incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
