GAME RECAP

Lundstrom nets hat trick, leads Billings to 6-1 win over Great Falls

Centennial Ice Arena    Wed, Dec 31, 2014

A hat trick by Alex Lundstrom was the highlight in Bulls' 6-1 win against the Great Falls Americans.

Lundstrom's first goal came 4:36 into the second period. He then added goals at 12:20 into the second and at 17:23 into the second.

The Billings Bulls' Cole Semchak was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 41 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Semchak will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.44.

Billings' penalty kill excelled, as the Bulls gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

Billings stifled Great Falls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bulls' offense rang up 39 shots on the Americans' net. Billings outdid its season average for goals scored. The Bulls have scored at the pace of 3.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Billings could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 22 minutes in penalties during the game.

Billings also got points from Steven Thompson, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Billings also had goals scored by Reed Kaiser and Nick Rizzo, who scored one goal each. In addition, Billings received assists from Ian Wiljanen, who had two and Bryce Jensen, Josh Pena, and Tristan Henrichs, who each chipped in one.

Great Falls was held below its usual level of production. The Americans put an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. Great Falls forced the Bulls goalie Semchak to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. The Americans' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Great Falls averages 2.0 goals allowed per game. The Americans struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays.

Great Falls was led by Dylan Garton, who scored the team's only goal. Garton scored 7:02 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Arseny Ivanov provided the assist.

The Americans' Lauren Massie stopped 33 shots out of the 39 that he faced.
