A stellar performance between the pipes by Cody Gibson helped the Southern Tier Xpress defeat the Toledo Cherokee, 2-1. Southern Tier was paced by Victor McCutcheon, who had one goal. McCutcheon scored short handed 19:10 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Southern Tier. A tripping call on Philip Grippi put the Xpress on the penalty kill. Southern Tier excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Southern Tier also got a goal from Cody Maulsby as well. Other players who recorded assists for Southern Tier were Justin Andriaccio and Elijah Williams, who contributed one each. Toledo stifled the Xpress' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cherokee could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Toledo averages 3.4 goals per game. Southern Tier was unable to stop the Cherokee from sending pucks towards the net, and Toledo eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Cherokee were led by Evan Heldt, who scored the team's only goal. Heldt scored 12:43 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Kyle Downey assisted on the tally. The Xpress' Gibson stopped 31 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Southern Tier incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Xpress ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Andre Vanlew was ejected from the game. Glen Bates recorded 25 saves for Toledo. The Cherokee ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
