La Crosse blows out Topeka, 5-1

The Topeka Capitals had trouble finding ways to stop the La Crosse Freeze, which beat Capitals, 5-1.

La Crosse was paced by Jack Sterne, who finished with one goal. Sterne scored 4:05 into the first period to make the score 2-0 La Crosse. Jared Bromberg assisted on the tally.

La Crosse also got points from Hunter Smith, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Tyler Gorniak, who also tallied one goal and one assist. La Crosse also had goals scored by Alexander Rickoff and Austin Moser, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for La Crosse were Taylor Trapp, who had two and Hunter Dragosh, Justin Edwards, and Jake Lipski, who contributed one each.

Topeka managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Capitals finished below its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Topeka did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Capitals put an average of 4.0 pucks into the net per game.

Topeka was led by Kyle Rimbach, who scored the team's only goal. Rimbach scored 9:45 into the second period to make the score 3-1 La Crosse. Hank Roers picked up the assist.

The Freeze's Cameron Scheuren stopped 20 shots out of the 21 that he faced. La Crosse incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Jacob Pelton made 18 saves for the Capitals on 23 shots. Topeka registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
