Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Billings Bulls defeated the Yellowstone Quake in a shootout 2-1 (2-0 SO). The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Billings' other shootout goal was scored by Nick Rizzo.Yellowstone's power play was ineffective against the Bulls' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Quake were unable to stop Billings from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bulls eventually piled up 63 shots on goal. Billings was led by TJ Theodosopoulos, who finished with one goal. Theodosopoulos scored on the power play 1:03 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Billings. The Bulls had gotten the advantage when Yellowstone's Sean Pilet was sent off for tripping. Steven Thompson assisted on the tally. The Quake were led by Max Doner, who scored the team's only goal. Doner scored on the power play 6:43 into the third period to make the score 1-1. An interference penalty on Cole Emery had put Yellowstone on the power play. Sawyer Scanlan picked up the assist. Cole Semchak rejected 21 shots on goal for Billings. The Bulls incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Lance Knudson recorded 61 saves for the Quake. Yellowstone incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
