GAME RECAP

Morgan lifts Wisconsin over Peoria, 5-2

Owens Rec Ctr    Sun, Nov 23, 2014

Behind a great game by Connor Morgan, who had two goals, the Wisconsin Whalers defeated the Peoria Mustangs, 5-2.

Morgan's tallies came on the power play at 8:50 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Peoria and 19 seconds into the third to make the score 4-3 Wisconsin.

Peoria's power play was ineffective against Wisconsin's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Mustangs were unable to stop the Whalers from sending pucks towards the net, and Wisconsin eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

Wisconsin also got points from Nathan Viberg, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Adam Schoenfeld, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Wisconsin also got a goal from Thomas Hanson as well. More assists for Wisconsin came via Peter Henderson, who had two and Alex Anderson, Michael Tish, Adam Alcott, and Isaac Hale, who each chipped in one.

Peoria did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Mustangs put an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. Peoria kept the Whalers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Evan Moyse made 32 saves on 34 shots. The Mustangs found themselves short handed often, totaling 28 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

Peoria was led by Andrew Scofield, who finished with one goal. Scofield scored on the power play 12:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Peoria. The Mustangs earned a power play opportunity when Kaleb Morley was put in the box for head contact. Jack Power Wayvon assisted on the tally. Peoria also had goals scored by Kai Barber and Nathan Scofield, who scored one goal each. In addition, Peoria received assists from Marshall Gevers and Jason Hoehn, who contributed one each.

Wisconsin incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Peoria's Marc Hayton stopped 36 shots out of the 41 that he faced.
