Topeka blows out Sugar Land, 6-3

The Topeka Capitals had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-3 win over the Sugar Land Imperials.

Trey Opack had two goals and one assist to lead Topeka. Opack scored the first of his two goals at 8:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Topeka. Opack's next tally made the score 2-2 with 14:14 left in the second period. The Capitals had gotten the advantage when Sugar Land's Frank Muscarella was sent off for tripping. Colin OConner assisted on the tally.

Topeka excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Capitals bested their season scoring average. Topeka averages 3.8 goals per game.

Topeka additionally got points from Richard Yusa, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Alex Sauer, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Topeka included Hank Roers and Alex Johanson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Topeka received assists from Tre Kautzman, who had two and Drew Kelly and Steve MacIver, who contributed one each.

The Imperials were helped by Aksel Campbell, who had one goal. Campbell scored 2:36 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Muscarella picked up the assist. Sugar Land also had goals scored by Mason Smith and Matt DeNure, who each put in one. More assists for Sugar Land came via Tyler Johnson, John Cuni, and Anthony Chesrow, who each chipped in one.

The Capitals' Brett Malkmus stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Topeka incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Colton Anderson made 21 saves for Sugar Land on 27 shots. The Imperials incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
