Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Chicago Junior Bulldogs defeated the Wisconsin Whalers in a shootout 2-1 (2-0 SO). The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. Chicago's other shootout goal was scored by Toms Taurins.The Junior Bulldogs overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Chicago trailed 1-0 after a goal by Wisconsin's Will Holtan at 1:33 in the third period. The Junior Bulldogs tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Michael Howard at 12:26 in the third period. Chicago's Sam Harden was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 48 saves and let only one puck past him. Harden managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.16 prior to the game. The Junior Bulldogs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Wisconsin power plays. More assists for Chicago came via Tyler Seltenriech and Michael Ellis, who contributed one each. The Whalers stifled Chicago's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Wisconsin was held below its usual level of production. The Whalers put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. Wisconsin forced the Junior Bulldogs goalie Harden to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. In addition, Wisconsin received assists from Dan Addie and Adam Alcott, who each chipped in one. Chicago incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Chris Johansen made 26 saves for the Whalers on 27 shots. Wisconsin incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
