Peoria rips Minnesota, 6-2

The Peoria Mustangs had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-2 win over the Minnesota Flying Aces.

Andrew Scofield had two goals to lead Peoria to victory. Scofield scored at 15:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Peoria and again while on the power play 17:32 into the first to make the score 2-0 Peoria.

Minnesota was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Mustangs were able to score four times while on the power play.

Peoria forced the Flying Aces goalie Kevin OShea to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Peoria also got points from Nathan Scofield, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Andrej Buchko, who also registered one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Peoria included Levi Armstrong and Kai Barber, who scored one goal each. In addition, Peoria received assists from Austin Ziakas, who had four and Ross Lipic, Chance Homerin, Thomas Kolaz, Austin Wisely, and Mark Candotti, who contributed one each.

Minnesota racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. The Flying Aces had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Ross Lipic took the win and made 18 saves before being replaced by Nicholas Piech who made six saves. The Mustangs incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Kevin OShea made 29 saves for Minnesota on 35 shots. The Flying Aces registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For Minnesota, Jesse Brown was ejected from the game.
