GAME RECAP

Pittsburgh beats Cleveland 4-2 after comeback scare

Alpha Ice Complex    Sat, Oct 25, 2014

The Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Pittsburgh Vengeance would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

A goal by Eli Lynn put Pittsburgh up 4-1 in the third period, but Cleveland pulled to within two on Daniel Goodwin's tally 19:33 into the third period.

The Vengeance got the win behind a great game by Lynn, who had two goals and one assist. Lynn scored the first of his two goals short handed at 14:08 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Pittsburgh. A roughing call on Jake Salak put Pittsburgh on the penalty kill. Brooks Antill picked up the assist. Lynn's next tally short handed made the score 4-1 Pittsburgh with 16:16 left in the third period. The Vengeance had gotten the advantage when the Jr. Lumberjacks' Patrick Briggs was sent off for slashing. Cody Black assisted on the tally.

Pittsburgh's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Cleveland power plays. The Vengeance's offense rang up 34 shots on Cleveland's net.

Pittsburgh also had goals scored by Parker Henry and Gavin Cummings, who scored one goal each. More assists for Pittsburgh came via Nils Markgren, who had one and Tyler Speis, who had two.

Other players who recorded assists for Cleveland were Zack Mlady, who had two and Avery Huibregtse and Aaron Schmitt, who each chipped in one.

Brian Baker made 15 saves for Pittsburgh on 17 shots. The Vengeance incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Alec Rounds rejected 30 shots on goal for the Jr. Lumberjacks. Cleveland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
