Point Mallard outlasts Topeka, 3-2

The Point Mallard Ducks gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Topeka Capitals.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Chris Lepore's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Point Mallard was paced by Lepore, who had one goal. Lepore scored 17:47 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Point Mallard. Brad Reitter assisted on the tally.

Point Mallard also got points from Grant Dukus, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Chris Corgan also scored for Point Mallard. In addition, Point Mallard received assists from Noah Gilreath, Stephen Coulter, and Davis Hudson, who contributed one each.

Topeka stifled the Ducks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Point Mallard was unable to stop the Capitals from sending pucks towards the net, and Topeka eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

The Capitals were helped by Steve MacIver, who tallied one goal. MacIver scored on the power play 4:11 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Topeka. Topeka had taken the advantage when the Ducks' Justin Dunn got sent off for boarding. Alex Sauer picked up the assist. Topeka additionally got points from Sauer, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Topeka came via Trey Opack, who had one.

Billy Wager made 35 saves for Point Mallard on 37 shots. The Ducks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Bailey Aust recorded 23 saves for the Capitals. Topeka incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
