Southern Tier rips Cleveland, 7-2

The Southern Tier Xpress were firing on all cylinders against the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks, and when the final buzzer sounded Xpress emerged with a 7-2 win.

Southern Tier was led by Luke Grossman, who finished with one goal. Grossman scored 20:00 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Southern Tier. Andre Vanlew picked up the assist.

The Xpress' offense rang up 43 shots on Cleveland's net. Southern Tier surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Xpress average 3.8 goals per game.

Southern Tier additionally got points from Justin Andriaccio, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, Luke Sunde, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Cody Maulsby, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Southern Tier included Curtis Carlson and Elijah Williams, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Southern Tier were Tim Weisgerber, who had two and Addison Collins, Brandon Desrosiers, Jake Herrberg, Jake Wasem, Mark Sunde, and Chris Hubbard, who each chipped in one.

The Jr. Lumberjacks were helped by Patrick Briggs, who finished with one goal. Briggs scored 9:42 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Zack Mlady assisted on the tally. John Barlow also scored for Cleveland. More assists for Cleveland came via Tyler Dalton and Tyler Houmard, who contributed one each.

Matt Hatcher made 20 saves for Southern Tier on 22 shots. The Xpress incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Cleveland's Sam Pikus stopped 36 shots out of the 43 that he faced. The Jr. Lumberjacks totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Cleveland ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Avery Huibregtse was ejected from the game.
