Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Metro Jets defeated the Toledo Cherokee in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. Toledo's shootout goal was scored by Tyler Zalecki. Metro also got a shootout goal from Matt Dempsey.The Jets overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Metro trailed 2-1 after a power play goal by the Cherokee's Cody Estrel at 17:21 in the second period. The Jets tied things up at 2-2 on a short handed goal by Pearce Vance at 16:32 in the third period. Metro's penalty kill excelled, as the Jets gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. Metro was helped by Zachary Koonce, who finished with one goal. Koonce scored 15:59 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alex Holm picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Metro were Kyle Shreve and Dempsey, who contributed one each. Toledo's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Metro power plays. The Cherokee's offense rang up 33 shots on the Jets' net. Zach Swanson also scored for Toledo. In addition, Toledo received assists from Zalecki and Mark McGee, who each chipped in one. Kameron Limburg rejected 31 shots on goal for Metro. The Jets incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Aaron Callan recorded 19 saves for Toledo. The Cherokee incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
