GAME RECAP

Cleveland vanquishes Pittsburgh in shootout, 2-1 (2-1 SO)

PSI Internal Staff    Sun, Oct 05, 2014

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks defeated the Pittsburgh Vengeance in a shootout 2-1 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed nine turns to complete the shootout. Pittsburgh's shootout goal was scored by Cody Black. Cleveland's other shootout goal was scored by Tyler Houmard.

The Jr. Lumberjacks' Alec Rounds was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 32 saves and let only one puck past him. Rounds managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.96 prior to the game.

Cleveland was led by Tyler Dalton, who had one goal. Dalton scored 14:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cleveland. Miks Grundmanis assisted on the tally.

The Vengeance put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jr. Lumberjacks to score on any of their three power plays. Pittsburgh could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Vengeance average 3.4 goals per game. Pittsburgh's offense rang up 33 shots on Cleveland's net.

The Vengeance were led by Black, who scored the team's only goal. Black scored on the power play 10:57 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Pittsburgh had gained a power play chance when Trey Rossbach was whistled for elbowing. Gavin Cummings picked up the assist.

The Jr. Lumberjacks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Jacob Stack made 26 saves for the Vengeance on 27 shots. Pittsburgh incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
