Toledo falls to Southern Tier in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Southern Tier Xpress pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Toledo Cherokee on a clutch goal by Luke Grossman.

Southern Tier was led by Grossman, who registered one goal and one assist. Grossman scored short handed 1:12 into overtime to make the score 3-2 Southern Tier. Elijah Williams picked up the assist.

The Xpress' offense rang up 33 shots on Toledo's net.

Southern Tier additionally got points from Williams, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Luke Sunde also scored for Southern Tier. In addition, Southern Tier received assists from Tim Weisgerber, Brandon Desrosiers, Chris Hubbard, and Niko Greco, who contributed one each.

The Cherokee excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Southern Tier was unable to stop Toledo from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cherokee eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Toledo was helped by Zach Swanson, who racked up one goal. Swanson scored on the power play 18:05 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Southern Tier. The Cherokee had taken the advantage when the Xpress' Grossman got sent off for roughing. Kyler Omey assisted on the tally. Toledo also got a goal from Cam Schwartz as well. More assists for Toledo came via Jimmy Howell and Cody Estrel, who each chipped in one.

Southern Tier's Benjamin Sakaria stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The Xpress ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For Southern Tier, Cody Maulsby was ejected from the game. Aaron Callan made 30 saves for Toledo on 33 shots. The Cherokee totaled 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Toledo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brody Duncan was ejected from the game.
