Helena wins tough contest against Yellowstone, 6-4

The Helena Bighorns and the Yellowstone Quake were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Helena made the most of its opportunities and won, 6-4.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Kendall Bolen-Porter at 2:04 of the third period.

The Bighorns got the win thanks to a great game by Bolen-Porter, who had one goal and two assists.

Helena pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 40 penalty minutes.

The Bighorns put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Yellowstone to score on any of its eight power plays. Helena kept the Quake's goalie busy throughout the game, and Sean Leahy made 41 saves on 47 shots. The Bighorns gave up more goals than its normal season average. Helena is averaging 1.3 goal against for the season. The Bighorns got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Helena additionally got points from Brian Skillicorn, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Helena also had goals scored by Jay Forbes, who had two and Matt Mohar and Justin Provencher, who scored one goal each. In addition, Helena received assists from Jarrett Scheibel, who had two and Nick Trefry, Brandon Mills, and Brandt Miller, who each chipped in one.

Helena was unable to stop Yellowstone from sending pucks towards the net, and the Quake eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Yellowstone was led by Sawyer Scanlan, who racked up one goal and two assists. Scanlan scored 49 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Helena. Max Doner assisted on the tally. Yellowstone also got points from Doner, who also had one goal and one assist and Mike McCullen, who also registered one goal and one assist. Yellowstone also got a goal from Zach Schairer as well. Other players who recorded assists for Yellowstone were Will Landsverk, who had one.

The Bighorns' Alex Kruger stopped 31 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Helena registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Bighorns ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Blassic was ejected from the game. The Quake incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
