Twin City rolls over Breezy Point, 5-1Breezy Point Ice Arena Sat, Sep 27, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Twin City Steel had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Breezy Point North Stars. Twin City was led by goalie Darien Jones, who finished with 34 saves while allowing one goal. Jones managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.5 prior to the game. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:54 into the third period. Seven fighting penalties were dished out along with seven game misconducts. The Steel racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and three majors for 97 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 46.0 minutes per game Twin City had been spending in the box. The Steel forced Breezy Point's goaltenders to work without much rest, taking 33 shots and forcing 28 saves. Dakota McDonald made 28 stops and Joe Licata made zero. Twin City had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 12 chances. The Steel were led by Kyle Wagner, who registered two goals and one assist. Wagner scored the first of his two goals at 5:47 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Twin City. Lance Carney provided the assist. Wagner's next tally made the score 4-0 Twin City with 13:44 left in the third period. Mikko Aho picked up the assist. Twin City also got a goal from Jordan Pitlick as well. More assists for Twin City came via Aharon Lara, Jared Erickson, Jay Paul, and Bennett Witta, who each chipped in one. The North Stars were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and five majors for 95 minutes in penalty time. Breezy Point surpassed its season average of 36.0 penalty minutes per game. The North Stars forced Twin City goalie Jones to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Ryan Mezera also scored for Breezy Point. In addition, Breezy Point received assists from Joe Costello and Seyia Hayata, who contributed one each. Team's Adam Bedford, Russel Barone, Paul, and Witta were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Breezy Point registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For the North Stars, Nick Blanchette, Tyler Larwood, Kole Kobel, and Mezera were ejected from the contest.
