Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the West Michigan Wolves defeated the Peoria Mustangs in a shootout 6-5 (3-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, West Michigan got shootout goals from Dakota Ulmer and Michael Tratar.

The Wolves was paced on offense by Ulmer and Tratar, who combined for six points. Ulmer registered two goals and Tratar also added one goal and three assists.

West Michigan excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Wolves forced Peoria goalie Marc Hayton to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. West Michigan surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Wolves average 3.2 goals per game.

West Michigan also got points from Tratar, who also grabbed one goal and three assists to lead the team in points and Sean Smalley, who also had one goal and one assist. West Michigan also got a goal from Taylor Burdorf as well. Other players who recorded assists for West Michigan were Tim Foley, who had two and Austin Buchholz, Mike Difranco, and Kyle Keeder, who contributed one each.

The Mustangs' offense rang up 31 shots on West Michigan's net.

Peoria was helped by Andrew Scofield, who racked up two goals. Scofield scored the first of his two goals at 8:08 into the second period to make the score 4-3 West Michigan. Jason Hoehn provided the assist. Scofield's next tally made the score 4-4 with 8:38 left in the second period. The Mustangs found themselves down a man on Marshall Gevers's holding. Austin Wisely assisted on the tally. Peoria additionally got points from Wisely, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Peoria included Kai Barber and Chance Homerin, who each put in one.

Kyler Patenaude recorded 26 saves for the Wolves. West Michigan incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Marc Hayton made 31 saves for Peoria on 36 shots. The Mustangs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
