Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Toledo Cherokee defeated the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured 14 attempts between both teams. Cleveland's shootout goal was scored by Ryker Barber. In addition to the clincher, Toledo got a shootout goal from Tyler Zalecki.The Cherokee came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Toledo was down 2-1 after a power play goal by the Jr. Lumberjacks' Mitch Renstrom at 10:34 in the third period. The Cherokee knotted things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Zalecki at 12:29 in the third period. Zalecki had a great game for Toledo, netting two goals. The Cherokee forced Cleveland goalie Sam Pikus to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots. In addition, Toledo received assists from Aaron Roschinsky, Austin Turner, Brody Duncan, and Jimmy Howell, who each chipped in one. The Jr. Lumberjacks were helped by Avery Huibregtse, who tallied one goal. Huibregtse scored on the power play 16:59 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cleveland had gained a power play chance when Roschinsky was whistled for too many men. More assists for Cleveland came via Adam Schaffer and Aaron Schmitt, who contributed one each. Toledo's Glen Bates stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Cherokee incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Pikus rejected 43 shots on goal for the Jr. Lumberjacks. Cleveland incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
