Billings shrugs off penalties, upends Yellowstone, 6-3Centennial Ice Arena Fri, Sep 19, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Yellowstone Quake failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Billings Bulls shook off a number of penalties to win, 6-3. Billings was led by Matt Myers, who grabbed one goal. Myers scored 39 seconds into the third period to make the score 4-3 Billings. Torin Foundos assisted on the tally. The Bulls forced Yellowstone goalie Sean Leahy to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Billings' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Billings additionally got points from Ian Eshbaugh, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Reed Kaiser, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Nick Rizzo, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Billings also got a goal from Tristan Henrichs as well. More assists for Billings came via TJ Theodosopoulos, who had two and Trent Carter, Chad Stucker, Josh Pena, and Cameron Birklid, who contributed one each. The Quake's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Yellowstone finished with 30 penalty minutes. The Quake were helped by Sean Pilet, who had one goal. Pilet scored on the power play 18:04 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Yellowstone. Yellowstone earned a power play opportunity when Birklid was put in the box for interference. Max Doner provided the assist. Others who scored for Yellowstone included John Scherer and Brandon Blaszczyk, who scored one goal each. In addition, Yellowstone received assists from Josh Neumann, Mason Stewart, Zach Schairer, and Will Landsverk, who each chipped in one. The Bulls' Cole Semchak stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Billings incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Sean Leahy made 35 saves for the Quake on 41 shots. Yellowstone registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
