Callan stymies Metro, Toledo wins 4-1Team Toledo Ice House Sat, Sep 13, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Toledo Cherokee relied on the sparkling performance of Aaron Callan in net to grab a 4-1 win against the Metro Jets. Toledo was sparked by Austin Turner, who finished with one goal. Turner scored 1:37 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Toledo. Brody Duncan picked up the assist. The Cherokee stifled Metro's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Toledo kept the Jets' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jake Stephan made 40 saves on 44 shots. The Cherokee struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for four opposing power plays. Toledo also got points from Cam Schwartz, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Aaron Roschinsky, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Toledo also got a goal from Tyler Zalecki as well. Other players who recorded assists for Toledo were David Bogart, who had two and Evan Heldt, Dominic Pisanti, and Zach Swanson, who each chipped in one. Metro did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Jets put an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. Metro's offense rang up 39 shots on Toledo's net. Penalties took their toll on the Jets, as their penalty kill unit let in three power play goals. Metro was led by Jacob Rutkoske, who scored the team's only goal. Rutkoske scored 18:33 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Toledo. Pearce Vance provided the assist. Callan rejected 38 shots on goal for the Cherokee. The Jets incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
