The Hawkesbury Hawks tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Cornwall Colts held on for a 6-5 victory. Cornwall made the score 4-0 on a goal by Cameron Roth at 9:24 in the second period, and Hawkesbury got as close as 6-5 when Ross Mandigo scored 17:40 into the third period. The Colts got the win behind a great game by Kevin Hope, who had two goals and one assist. Hope scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cornwall. Cornwall had taken the advantage when the Hawks' Brandon Barillaro got sent off for kneeing. Marly Quince picked up the assist. Hope's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Cornwall with 18:50 left in the second period. Quince provided the assist. The Colts forced Hawks' goalies to work all game long, taking 32 shots and forcing 26 saves. CJ Sharp made nine stops and Gunner Rivers made 17. Cornwall's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Hawkesbury power plays. The Colts' goal total was higher than their season average. Cornwall has scored at the pace of 3.4 goals per game during the current campaign. Cornwall also got points from Quince, who also grabbed one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Cornwall also had goals scored by Jay DAmour and Peter Angelopoulos, who scored one goal each. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Dean Derouchie, who had two, Grant Cooper, who had three, and Nick Lalonde and Parker Krol, who contributed one each. Hawkesbury forced the Colts goalie Denny Dubblestyne to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. The Hawks struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Cornwall to score two power play goals on three chances. The defensemen of Hawkesbury were also effective in the Colts' zone, and came away with two goals. The Hawks were led by Chris Harper, who registered one goal and one assist. Harper scored 15:24 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Cornwall. Hunter Racine assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Hawkesbury included Damien Charette, CJ Stubbs, and Jonathan Tecce, who each put in one. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Jason Brochu, who had two and Pierre Ouellette, Rory Gagnon, and Liam Alcalde, who each chipped in one. Dubblestyne recorded 35 saves for Cornwall. The Colts incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Hawkesbury incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
