Carleton Place rolls over Hawkesbury, 5-1

The Carleton Place Canadians had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Hawkesbury Hawks.

Carleton Place was sparked by Bryce VanHorn, who tallied one goal. VanHorn scored 9:34 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Carleton Place. Wesley Baker picked up the assist.

The Canadians put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Hawkesbury to score on any of its five power plays. Carleton Place kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Gunner Rivers made 36 saves on 41 shots.

Carleton Place also got points from Andy Sturtz, who also registered one goal and two assists and Jordan Larson, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Carleton Place included Adam Lloyd and Andrew Dodson, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Stephen Baylis, who had two and Owen Grant and Tyson Stewart, who each chipped in one.

Hawkesbury's offense operated below its season average. The Hawks average 3.4 goals per game.

Hawkesbury was led by Pierre Ouellette, who scored the team's only goal. Ouellette scored 3:52 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place. CJ Stubbs provided the assist.

The Canadians' Guillaume Therien stopped 21 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Carleton Place incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Hawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
