Garlasco's goals lift Nepean to 2-1 victory over CumberlandNavan Memorial Centre Fri, Feb 13, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Nepean Raiders relied on the scoring touch of Rory Garlasco, who netted two goals, to beat the Cumberland Grads, 2-1. Garlasco's tallies came at 9:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Nepean and 3:07 into the third to make the score 2-1 Nepean.Nepean's Francis Marotte was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 32 saves and let only one puck past him. Marotte managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.18 prior to the game. The Raiders pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 23 penalty minutes. Nepean's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. More assists for Nepean came via Adel Zivojevic, who had two and Chad Malinowski and Nicolas Vlahos, who each chipped in one. Cumberland racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The Grads surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. Cumberland stifled the Raiders' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Nepean was unable to stop the Grads from sending pucks towards the net, and Cumberland eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. The Grads were led by Trent Shore, who scored the team's only goal. Shore scored on the power play 14:41 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Cumberland had taken the advantage when the Raiders' Zach Renfrew got sent off for interference. Martin Frechette assisted on the tally. Nepean registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. For the Raiders, Jody Sullivan was ejected from the game. Kevin Gollmer rejected 25 shots on goal for the Grads. Cumberland registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. The Grads ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Meininger was ejected from the game.
