Ottawa vanquishes Smiths Falls in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Smiths Falls Bears in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Ottawa came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Senators trailed 2-1 after a goal by Smiths Falls' Taylor Henry at 1:04 in the third period. Ottawa knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Matthew Cruickshank at 13:00 in the third period.

The Senators were helped by Jim Pearson, who had one goal. Pearson scored 10:04 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Thomas Crevier assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were Sean Rappleyea, Carl Faucher, and Zach Car, who each chipped in one.

The Bears put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Ottawa to score on any of its four power plays.

Smiths Falls also got a goal from Ryan Duhaime as well. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Jared Henry, Connor Rankin, and Chris King, who contributed one each.

Alexandre Savard-Belanger made 17 saves for the Senators on 19 shots. Ottawa incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Michael Pinios recorded 25 saves for Smiths Falls. The Bears incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
