Hawkesbury rolls over Nepean, 5-1Robert Hartley Sports Complex1 Fri, Feb 06, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Nepean Raiders had trouble finding ways to stop the Hawkesbury Hawks, which beat Raiders, 5-1. Hawkesbury got the win thanks to a great game by Ross Mandigo, who had two goals and one assist. Mandigo scored the first of his two goals at 13:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hawkesbury. Reid Murphy picked up the assist. Mandigo's next tally made the score 3-1 Hawkesbury with 10:44 left in the second period. The Hawks had gotten the advantage when Nepean's Luke McCaw was sent off for grabbing face mask. Chris Harper assisted on the tally. The Raiders were stymied by Hawkesbury's netminder Gunner Rivers, who stopped 25 shots during the victory. Rivers certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.63 entering the contest. The Hawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Nepean power plays. Hawkesbury kept Nepean's goalie busy throughout the game, and John Gilmer made 33 saves on 38 shots. The Hawks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 21 penalty minutes. Hawkesbury also got points from Murphy, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Hawkesbury included Jason Brochu and Liam Alcalde, who scored one goal each. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Damien Charette, Domenic Camastra, Paul Vella, CJ Stubbs, Michael Ethier, Jonathan Cyr, and Alex Anderson, who each chipped in one. The Raiders forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. Nepean had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Raiders were led by Jack Kilrea, who scored the team's only goal. Kilrea scored 4:08 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Jody Sullivan picked up the assist. Hawkesbury registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Hawks, Stubbs was ejected from the game. Nepean ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Zach Renfrew was ejected from the game.
