Carleton Place holds on for 3-1 win against Kanata

The Carleton Place Canadians survived a determined comeback attempt by the Kanata Stallions on the way to a 3-1 win.

Carleton Place made the score 3-0 on a goal by Adam Lloyd at 13:56 in the third period, and Kanata got as close as 3-1 when Ian Johnston scored 19:44 into the third period.

The Canadians pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 31 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:07 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Carleton Place's offense rang up 35 shots on the Stallions' net. The Canadians excelled on the penalty kill, only allowing Kanata to get one power play goal on 11 chances.

Carleton Place was helped by Craig Pefley, who registered one goal. Pefley scored 9:43 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Carleton Place. Stephen Baylis provided the assist. Carleton Place also got a goal from AJ Klein as well. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Vinny Post, who had two and Connor Merkley, Andrew Dodson, and Maxime StPierre, who each chipped in one.

The Stallions' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Kanata surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game.

Other players who recorded assists for Kanata were Rowan Savidant and Joey Laird, who contributed one each.

Adrian Clark rejected 14 shots on goal for the Canadians. Carleton Place registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For the Canadians, David Eccles was ejected from the game. Brian Wilson made 32 saves for the Stallions on 35 shots. Kanata ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Louis-Charles Croteau was ejected from the game.
