Huge game by Pearson boosts Ottawa over Hawkesbury, 5-2

Behind a great game by Jim Pearson, who had two goals and one assist, the Ottawa Senators defeated the Hawkesbury Hawks, 5-2.

Pearson found the back of the net on the power play 4:44 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Ottawa and again while on the power play 5:11 into the second to make the score 3-1 Ottawa.

Hawkesbury fell victim to a deadly Ottawa power play, which ripped the Hawks for four goals.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:47 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Senators were often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and two majors for 28 minutes in penalty time. Ottawa surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game.

Ottawa additionally got points from Joey Champigny, who also had one goal and one assist. Ottawa also got a goal from Zach Car as well. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Carl Faucher, who had two, Robert Michel, who had three, and Isaac Anderson and Brandon Watt, who each chipped in one.

Hawkesbury forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game the Hawks had been spending in the box.

Hawkesbury was helped by Hunter Racine, who racked up one goal. Racine scored 38 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Reid Murphy picked up the assist. Jason Brochu also scored for Hawkesbury. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Damien Charette and Ross Mandigo, who contributed one each.

The Senators' Alexandre Savard-Belanger stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Team's Michel and Connor Bebb were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Hawks' starting goalie, Gunner Rivers, made 13 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of CJ Sharp, who stopped three shots. Hawkesbury registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For the Hawks, Murphy, Nicholas Centauro, and Racine were ejected from the contest.
