Brockville rips Cumberland, 5-1

The Brockville Braves had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Cumberland Grads.

Sean King had two goals and one assist to lead Brockville. King scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:08 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Brockville. The Braves had gotten the advantage when Cumberland's Trent Shore was sent off for head contact. Jack Patterson assisted on the tally. King's next tally on the power play made the score 4-0 Brockville with 6:37 left in the second period. Jack Billings picked up the assist.

Brockville was led by goalie Bo Taylor, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. Taylor certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.06 entering the contest.

The Braves forced the Grads' goalies to work in net, launching 37 shots and forcing 32 saves. Kevin Gollmer made 23 stops and Paul Leger made nine. Brockville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Braves' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Brockville also got points from Owen Gill, who also had one goal and one assist and Andrew Peski, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Brockville came via Michael Murray, Neil Robinson, and Blake Carrick, who each chipped in one.

In addition, Cumberland received assists from Travis Douglas and Martin Frechette, who contributed one each.

Brockville totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. The Braves ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Andrew Jarvis was ejected from the game. Cumberland ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For the Grads, Peter Sigouin was ejected from the game.
