Kanata hangs on, beats Ottawa 2-1

Ethan MacLean scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Kanata Stallions held off the challenges of the Ottawa Senators in a tough 2-1 win.

MacLean provided Kanata with the game-winning tally when he scored 16:47 into the first period. Joey Laird assisted on the tally.

The Stallions were sparked by MacLean, who finished with one goal.

Kanata excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Stallions' offense were handcuffed by Ottawa's defensive play, and Kanata managed only 12 shots on goal during the game.

Arik Breton also scored for Kanata. In addition, Kanata received assists from Dylan Mascarin and James Thomson, who contributed one each.

The Senators were held below their usual level of production. Ottawa puts an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game.

The Senators were led by Matthew Cruickshank, who scored the team's only goal. Cruickshank scored 5:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ottawa. Connor Bebb picked up the assist.

Andrew Cipollone rejected 23 shots on goal for the Stallions. Kanata incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Ian Andriano made 10 saves for Ottawa on 12 shots. The Senators incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
