Cumberland wins tough contest against Ottawa, 5-3Jim Durrell Complex-Peplinski Wed, Jan 21, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cumberland Grads gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Ottawa Senators. Cumberland gained the winning advantage on a goal by Brandon Zullo 12:02 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Zullo had two goals to lead the Grads to victory. Cumberland's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Ottawa power plays. The Grads bested their season scoring average. Cumberland has scored at the pace of 2.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Cumberland also got points from Thomas Mansbridge, who also tallied two goals and one assist and Cody Kyle, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. More assists for Cumberland came via Tyler Pancel, who had one and Travis Douglas and Brett Faber, who each chipped in two. Ottawa kept the Grads' goalie busy throughout the game, and Kevin Gollmer made 33 saves on 36 shots. The Senators' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Ottawa gives up 2.4 goals per game. The Senators were led by Carl Faucher, who racked up two goals and one assist. Faucher scored the first of his two goals at 1:27 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Zach Car picked up the assist. Faucher's next tally made the score 3-3 with 12:26 left in the third period. Johnathan Kovacevic assisted on the tally. Ottawa additionally got points from Car, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Matthew Cruickshank, who had one and Isaac Anderson, who had two. Cumberland incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Ian Andriano made 16 saves for Ottawa on 20 shots. The Senators incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
