Hawkesbury blows out Gloucester, 7-1

The Hawkesbury Hawks were firing on all cylinders against the Gloucester Rangers, and when the final buzzer sounded Hawks emerged with a 7-1 win.

Jason Brochu was all over the ice for Hawkesbury, as he tallied one goal and three assists in the win. Brochu scored 3:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hawkesbury. Jonathan Cyr assisted on the tally.

The Hawks' Gunner Rivers was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 33 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Rivers will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.6.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:32 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Hawkesbury forced Gloucester's goalies to work between the pipes, firing 40 shots and forcing 33 saves. Doug Johnston made 12 stops and David Richer made 21. The Hawks stifled the Rangers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Hawkesbury found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Hawks average 3.4 goals per contest.

Hawkesbury additionally got points from Pierre Ouellette, who also registered one goal and one assist, Paul Vella, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Cyr, who also had one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Hawkesbury included Domenic Camastra, Alex Anderson, and Hunter Racine, who each put in one. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Reid Murphy, who had two and Damien Charette, CJ Stubbs, and Liam Alcalde, who contributed one each.

Gloucester's offense operated below its season average. The Rangers put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. Gloucester forced Hawkesbury goalie Rivers to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Hawks totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. For Hawkesbury, Charette was ejected from the game. The Rangers totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-5 on the power play. Gloucester ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Vincent Guimond was ejected from the game.
