Cumberland squeaks by Nepean, 3-2Nepean Sportsplex Rink 1 Sun, Jan 18, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cumberland Grads and the Nepean Raiders were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Cumberland made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Chandler Watson's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. The Grads' penalty kill excelled, as Cumberland gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. The Grads were led by Watson, who had one goal. Watson scored 9:33 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Cumberland. Peter Sigouin assisted on the tally. Cumberland stifled Nepean's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Raiders were unable to stop the Grads from sending pucks towards the net, and Cumberland eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Cumberland also had goals scored by Nicolas Mattinen and Cody Kyle, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Trent Shore, Travis Douglas, Thomas Mansbridge, Brandon Zullo, and Joey Sollazzo, who each chipped in one. Nepean put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Grads to score on any of their seven power plays. The Raiders were helped by Luke McCaw, who registered one goal and one assist. McCaw scored 4:17 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jody Sullivan picked up the assist. Nepean also got points from Sullivan, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Nepean received assists from Adel Zivojevic, who had two. Kevin Gollmer recorded 21 saves for Cumberland. The Grads incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Nepean's Francis Marotte stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The Raiders incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
