Hawkesbury's comeback falls short, Ottawa wins 5-3

The Ottawa Senators, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Hawkesbury Hawks and clinched a 5-3 victory.

Ottawa led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Senators' Sean Rappleyea scored on the power play at 3:29 in the second period to put Ottawa up 3-0.

Carl Faucher had two goals and one assist to lead the Senators. Faucher scored the first of his two goals at 37 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ottawa. Joey Champigny provided the assist. Faucher's next tally made the score 4-3 Ottawa with 14:22 left in the third period. Champigny picked up the assist.

Ottawa forced Hawks' goaltenders to work all game long, launching 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. CJ Sharp made 15 stops and Gunner Rivers made 12. The Senators' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Hawkesbury power plays.

Ottawa additionally got points from Champigny, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Jim Pearson also scored for Ottawa. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Robert Michel and Zach Car, who each chipped in two.

Hawkesbury forced Ottawa goalie Alexandre Savard-Belanger to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. Penalties took their toll on the Hawks, as their penalty kill unit let in two power play goals.

Hawkesbury was helped by Hunter Racine, who registered one goal and one assist. Racine scored 10:27 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Ottawa. Chris Harper assisted on the tally. Hawkesbury also got points from Ross Mandigo, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Hawkesbury also got a goal from Domenic Camastra as well. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Reid Murphy and Jonathan Tecce, who contributed one each.

Savard-Belanger rejected 30 shots on goal for the Senators. Ottawa incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Hawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
