Baylis nets hat trick, leads Carleton Place to 5-3 win over Ottawa

The Ottawa Senators could not stop the Carleton Place Canadians' Stephen Baylis, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-3 win.

Baylis notched his first tally 2:35 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:47 into the first and at 19:57 into the third.

Carleton Place led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Canadians' Andy Sturtz scored short handed at 15:59 in the first period to put Carleton Place up 3-0.

The Canadians stifled Ottawa's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Carleton Place also got points from Sturtz, who also registered one goal and three assists and Jordan Larson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Guillaume Therien, Devin Campbell, and Craig Pefley, who contributed one each.

The Senators gave up more goals than its normal season average. Ottawa averages 2.3 goals allowed per game.

The Senators were helped by Jim Pearson, who racked up one goal. Pearson scored 11:30 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Carleton Place. Joey Champigny picked up the assist. Ottawa additionally got points from Shawn Lynch, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Ottawa also got a goal from Derek Varrin as well. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Isaac Anderson, who had two and Connor Bebb and Alexandre Way, who each chipped in one.

Carleton Place's Therien stopped 16 shots out of the 19 that he faced. The Canadians incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Alexandre Savard-Belanger rejected 15 shots on goal for Ottawa. The Senators incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
