Nepean rides Marotte to victory over Smiths Falls, 2-1Smiths Falls Memorial Centre Fri, Jan 09, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Francis Marotte had a standout game with 25 saves, and the Nepean Raiders beat the Smiths Falls Bears 2-1. Nepean was led by Brandon Belding, who had one goal. Belding scored 8:29 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Nepean. Benoit Villeneuve assisted on the tally. Nepean also got a goal from Mac MacSorley as well. In addition, Nepean received assists from Devin Fullum and Jack Kilrea, who each chipped in one. Smiths Falls excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Bears were held below their usual level of production. Smiths Falls puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. The Bears were led by Kevin Groulx, who scored the team's only goal. Groulx scored on the power play 3:11 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Smiths Falls had gotten the advantage when the Raiders' Luke McCaw was sent off for hooking. Josh Leblanc picked up the assist. Nepean incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Cole Skinner recorded 25 saves for the Bears. Smiths Falls totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. The Bears ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Karson McCartney was ejected from the game.
