Nepean holds on for 2-1 win against Kanata

The Kanata Stallions tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Nepean Raiders held on for a 2-1 victory.

Nepean made the score 2-0 on a goal by Jody Sullivan at 9:02 in the second period, and Kanata got as close as 2-1 when Hugo Petit scored 16:48 into the third period.

The Raiders were led by goalie Francis Marotte, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Marotte certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.26 entering the contest.

Nepean was led by Sullivan, who finished with one goal.

The Raiders put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Stallions to score on any of their five power plays. Nepean forced Kanata goalie Brian Wilson to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Josh Zizek also scored for Nepean. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Cody Calcagno, Corey Tam, Felix Page, and Rory Garlasco, who contributed one each.

In addition, Kanata received assists from Ian Johnston and Cameron Radziwon, who each chipped in one.

The Raiders incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Stallions' Wilson stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Kanata incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
