Andriano stymies Gloucester, Ottawa wins 4-1

Brandon Watt had two goals to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 4-1 victory over the Gloucester Rangers.

Watt scored at 16 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ottawa and again while 17:24 into the third to make the score 5-1 Ottawa.

Ottawa's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The Senators had been averaging 15.0 minutes in penalties per game. Ottawa excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Senators kept Gloucester's goalie busy throughout the game, and David Richer made 35 saves on 39 shots.

Ottawa additionally got points from Derek Varrin, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Ottawa also had goals scored by Robert Michel and Daniel Sarracco, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were Johnathan Kovacevic and Cody Bean, who each chipped in one and Carl Faucher and Zach Car, who contributed two each.

The Rangers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Ottawa power plays. Gloucester could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Rangers average 3.1 goals per game.

Gloucester was led by Liam Biard, who scored the team's only goal. Biard scored 16:57 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Ottawa. Vincent Guimond provided the assist.

Ottawa's Ian Andriano stopped 25 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Senators ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bean was ejected from the game. The Rangers incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
