Huge game by Coates boosts Smiths Falls over Cumberland, 5-2

The Smiths Falls Bears' Nicolas Coates had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 5-2 win over the Cumberland Grads.

Coates found the back of the net on the power play 5:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls and again while on the power play 16:10 into the second to make the score 3-2 Smiths Falls.

Smiths Falls' penalty kill excelled, as the Bears gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Smiths Falls kept Cumberland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kevin Gollmer made 33 saves on 38 shots. The Bears had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 10 chances.

Smiths Falls additionally got points from Taylor Henry, who also registered one goal and one assist and Karson McCartney, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Josh Leblanc as well. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Ryan Duhaime, Chris MacMillan, Brett Garvey, and #$self.jersey, who each chipped in one.

Smiths Falls was unable to stop the Grads from sending pucks towards the net, and Cumberland eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Grads were helped by Peter Sigouin, who grabbed one goal. Sigouin scored 13:04 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Zackhary Salloum assisted on the tally. Branden Makara also scored for Cumberland. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Reid Murphy and Thomas Mansbridge, who contributed one each.

Michael Pinios rejected 30 shots on goal for the Bears. Smiths Falls incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Cumberland incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
