GAME RECAP

Douglas nets hat trick, leads Cumberland to 5-2 win over Kanata

Kanata Recreational Complex    Thu, Dec 18, 2014

A hat trick by Travis Douglas was the highlight in Grads' 5-2 win against the Kanata Stallions.

Douglas notched his first tally 28 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 15:15 into the second and at 10:46 into the third.

The Cumberland Grads forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. Cumberland surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Grads forced Stallions' goalies to work without much rest, launching 38 shots and forcing 33 saves. Andrew Cipollone made 33 stops and Brian Wilson made zero. Cumberland's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Kanata power plays. The Grads' goal total was higher than their season average. Cumberland has scored at the pace of 2.6 goals per game during the current campaign.

Cumberland also had goals scored by Cody Kyle and Joey Sollazzo, who scored one goal each. More assists for Cumberland came via Chandler Watson, Ted McCabe, and Brett Faber, who contributed one each and Matthew Morin and Peter Sigouin, who each chipped in two.

Kanata's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the Stallions had been spending in the box. Kanata stifled the Grads' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Stallions were helped by Carter Malette, who grabbed one goal. Malette scored 1:45 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Cumberland. Bryce Biller picked up the assist. Kanata also got a goal from Ethan MacLean as well. In addition, Kanata received assists from Tyler ONeill, who had one.

Kevin Gollmer rejected 23 shots on goal for Cumberland. The Grads registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Cumberland ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Meininger was ejected from the game. For Kanata, Cameron Radziwon and Arik Breton were ejected from the contest.
